Travel Through Interstellar's Wormholes with Oculus Rift
Interstellar is an upcoming science fiction movie directed by Christopher Nolan about a team of space explorers who are traveling through a newly discovered wormhole to find out whether mankind has a future among the stars as the Earth comes to an end. The movie is set to be released on November 7 worldwide. It will be screened on IMAX and be shown through the Oculus Rift in select locations for promotional and publicity purposes. At London’s BFI IMAX on Friday October 24th from 11am to 9pm, IMAX had set up Oculus Rift immersive experience for anyone to try out. For those of you fans who missed it, you can check out the experience at MCM Comic Con show at the Excel Center in London this weekend from Friday 24th October to Sunday 26th October.

According to the users who were lucky enough to try it out, the virtual trip takes you inside the Interstellar world and you get to explore and travel into the wormholes. After being shows two trailers in the IMAX cinema, guests will go to the lobby, sit in a chair and go on to strap on their Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 headset. Virtually, instead of a mere chair, users will be sitting in the Endurance spacecraft which features in the movie. The fans claimed that the 3D graphics were of high quality and copied real time movements virtually readily. There is a 360-degree view to enable users to manage the spacecraft. You will be able to look up, down and around the vessel. The most amazing feature of this experience has to be zero gravity! Before switching on the artificial gravity, users will be informed through a voice message. Once it starts to have an effect in real time, the virtual experience becomes even more lifelike. There will be a sudden jerk and you will be floating in space. During floating, fans did feel some dizziness but the overall voyage was spectacular. Even though, you will not get to meet Mathew McConaughey and other stars, there will be many monuments of the movie drifting about you. The only disappointing thing about the virtual experience is that it was too short. After 5 fantastic minutes of buoyancy, you will float back to your seat. About the Interstellar’s Oculus Rift experience, Nolan said in a press statement, “I was impressed with how the experience is able to put you in the cockpit of Interstellar’s spaceship. It was just like being back on set.”
