Behind the Magic of the Blippar App

Blippar can use your smartphone or tablet’s camera to recognize a wide variety of images and show you dynamic content such as games, web links, videos, photo galleries, and even promotions. The content is referred as ‘blipps’ and you must do some blipping with your blippar to blipp these blipps out the real world with augmented reality if you know what I mean.

The app uses computer vision technology and artificial intelligence to search if there is any content associated with the object you are aiming with your camera. Then, thanks to AR technology, the app magically displays useful content right on top of the object. In case there isn’t information of a specific object, the deep learning technology looks for relevant information on the internet.

A ‘blipp’ can either be a noun or a verb and will definitely become a popular word very soon. A ‘blipp’ is the digital content that is associated with an image in the real world. ‘To blipp’ is the action of aiming the camera at an image to unlock the associated content with the Blippar app.
