Neuralink – Elon Musk’s Plan to Upgrade Humanity
Neuralink is trying to hack the brain, so that mankind can be healthier for longer in the future and enjoy the benefits of treating brain like a computer.
Neuralink’s Purpose is to Improve Human Beings
The company wants to take things a bit further, its goal is to make us better with technological developments, maybe inserting a chip or an electronic device inside our head that could improve our ability to perform complex mental tasks and our memory, maybe increase the speed of our personal communications. Possibilities are endless, we might as well establish a link with the cloud in the future or other internet infrastructures. It all sounds too sci-fi but nothing says it’s impossible, we just don’t have the means to get there…yet.
As of today, brain implants already exist, they contain multi-electrode arrays designed to ameliorate the effects of epilepsies and Parkinson’s disease. There are also other stimulating devices that people who suffer from Tourette’s, eating disorders, and depression can use to treat their illnesses. But all of this is still considered experimental, mainly because brain surgeries are difficult and dangerous.
Neuralink is trying to accelerate progress in this field of technology by using financial resources and a brain trust approach to innovation. Their main idea is to put enough talented people with enough money in the same place, so they can work together and achieve technological breakthroughs that would be almost impossible for traditional research organizations. What is clear is that Neuralink considers the medical field to be the top priority, but also just a starting point. Eventually, when brain-to-computer direct communication is achieved, this technology can and will be used for virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and much more.
To do this, Musk plans on being one of the first to create nanites, or nanotechnological robots, that attach themselves to brain neurons, and then together can communicate with a computer. Mastery of this technology may be decades away, but has got to start somewhere.
I don’t think, however, that Neuralink will limit itself to a single field of study, human technological augmentation could provide all sorts of potential uses, it could, for instance, improve our longevity, and maybe one day we could transfer our thoughts and memories to a machine and literally become immortal.
Neuralink is currently hiring professionals from all technological fields, maybe they need someone like you, check Neuralink’s website.
