Room-scale tracking No Longer an Experimental Oculus Feature

The Oculus Rift had technical support for room-scale Virtual Reality ever since the Touch motion controllers launched last year. But you had to buy additional tracking sensors with no guarantee of foolproof 3D tracking and smooth immersive room-scale experiences. Oculus warned users that room scale tracking was an experimental feature, so you could expect all sorts of bugs and errors from in-development functionality.

But six months have passed and the system has received several important updates, Oculus is now ready and confident that its room-scale support is good enough to lose the ‘experimental feature’ label and be considered as an official feature

Unlike the HTC Vive, Oculus didn’t bring room-scale tracking from the get-go, but it has been trying to catch up very quickly with its main rival. During the experimental stage, the Oculus room-scale tracking was not user-friendly at all. It was in fact so complex that Oculus created a series of blog posts to guide users through the setup process. But with the latest software release, we can expect things to be much better now.
