Thousands of Augmented Reality Apps coming to your iPhone

Augmented Reality got popular when Pokémon Go arrived, but even though Pokémon is not trendy anymore, people still remember the amount of fun they had with their first AR app. Now is Apple’s turn to seize the opportunity with the new iPhone coming and a new update to the iOS mobile operating system.

Everything started in June, when Apple first introduced its ARKit to develop AR apps, providing developers the tools and months in advance to work on concepts. Apple’s incursion into AR is a huge opportunity, both for the company and for Augmented Reality itself. When was the last time Apple was wrong on something besides de earbuds? Exactly, that’s our point.

The apps will release with the iOS 11, which is expected to arrive at the end of the month, but developers have been anxious to show their advances on Twitter and YouTube.

Some of the new apps include a Food Network decorating game that will let you decorate all sorts of desserts such as pies, cupcakes, and more. The Walking Dead fans will enjoy (or maybe not) watching zombies appearing on their backyard while shooting them to save their own lives. There will also be an IKEA application to see how over 2,000 items would look super imposed on your living room and maybe buy some of them.

Augmented reality overlays digital images onto physical spaces and doesn’t need extra hardware or goggles, you can experience it with a smartphone. Pokémon Go and Snapchat’s filters are some of the first AR experiences people have tried, and they love it.

Not only Apple is betting on AR, Google also introduced its own kit, ARCore, which will bring AR apps to Android system. It’s not clear when ARCore will release functioning apps, but we do know that only two smartphones will be able to run the apps, the Google Pixel and the Samsung Galaxy S8.

However, if you want to try the new AR apps coming to apple later this month, you will need one of the new iPhone models or some of the most recent such as the iPhone 7 or the 6S. Older models won’t be compatible.
