Details about the HTC Vive Cosmos are still fuzzy. Information such as the release date, price and specs are yet to be released but the company has just unveiled a short teaser video giving a glimpse into the controllers in action. The company, it seems, is beginning to offer drips of information about the product after showcasing at this year’s CES.

The 23-second teaser video was posted at HTC Vive’s official Twitter account and provides a look at how the controllers work and what they offer users. In the video, the company explains how the Vive Cosmos VR controllers will the user’s every of their move including the slightest flick of their wrist. The company also explains that the controllers’ joysticks and button placements are more ergonomic, thereby giving users better handling via their thumbs or fingers. The company states that its ergonomic design is better than that of the other virtual reality controllers currently in the market.

The Vive Cosmos VR controllers look a bit like the Oculus Rift Touch controllers. They both incorporate a loop design and both have the buttons and the joysticks positioned on the opposite sides. However, there are ways in which they differ. For example, in the Oculus Rift Touch controllers, you have a loop of plastic that will frame your knuckles while in the Vive Cosmos VR controllers, the loops jut in the other direction and they stick up rather than down.

The Cosmos controllers also have shorter handles which terminate in a loop of plastic illuminated on the inner part to provide users with a more precise tracking of movement. Within the loop where the user’s thumb naturally rests, there are at least two buttons and a thumbstick. The underside of the handle where the user’s fingers should grip also has two triggers. In a nutshell, while the Cosmos controls are inside the loop, the Oculus Rift Touch controls are the top of the loop where your thumb will rest when holding the controllers. According to HTC video teaser, the Cosmos controllers will provide instant compatibility with the existing virtual reality experiences.

The company has not yet divulged any details on when it plans to release its Vive Cosmos system or what the bundle will cost. During the CES2019, HTC did clarify that the Cosmos won’t be a standalone VR system like its Vive Focus and will require a processing source to function. The company has suggested that the system might run on a smartphone or PC so as to make it more portable than PC-dependent systems.
