Two years after the launch of its sci-fi exploration game No Man’s Sky, Hello Games has today announced that its next update of the game will have virtual reality support in PlaySation VR and Steam VR. The VR support for the space-exploration will come as part of the ‘Beyond’ update to be released this summer.

The Beyond update will have three main components. The first component will feature a radical new online multiplayer experience for the No Man’s Sky game. The second component will be the virtual reality. Hello Games is yet to reveal what the third component will entail.

The VR support will be available as part of a free update to the game. No Man’s Sky was released in 2016 for both PC and PlayStation 4. Hello Games released the Xbox One version in 2018. The platform, however, does not have virtual reality support so the immersive experience will be limited to the two VR headsets.

In the run-up to its release in 2016, No Man’s Sky got a lot of promotion and marketing buzz from Sony but the game eventually failed to live to the hype due its lack of features. However the game developer, Hello Games, has been hard at work over the past three years incorporating new features to the game such as multiplayer support, alien archaeology, new underwater worlds and base building. Hello Games studio is also working on releasing a much smaller scale game called The Last Campfire.

The company has been releasing free updates to the No Man’s Sky game on a fairly frequent interval. These have included the ‘Next’ update released in July 2018 which introduced the multiplayer mode into the space-exploration game thereby making it possible to support parties of four players. The ‘Next’ update momentarily bumped the game up into the top ten of the most played games on Steam which are based on concurrent players. However, the game has since dropped off the charts of top 100 list.

No Man's Sky
No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky is a first-person space exploration game where the players fly space ships and explore various alien planets. The cosmos-like feel makes it a great fit for VR which also has a sci-fi element. Virtual reality, for the most part, feels more like science fiction and is the perfect medium to experience a futuristic game such as this one. The interesting this about No Man’s Sky is that the actual gameplay does not change as you play along.

The virtual reality version of No Man’s Sky is not really a separate version of the game but the complete version brought to you in VR form.

Whether in No Man’s Sky, the ‘Next’ update or any other future update, you can look forward to an enriched and immersive virtual reality experience.

Virtual reality will just be a single aspect of ‘Beyond’ update. The game is also adding a greater multiplayer experience named No Man’s Sky Online.
