The Iron Man VR is currently under development by the game studio Camouflaj in partnership with PlayStation Worldwide Studios. Camouflaj is the same developer behind the AAA-quality stealth thriller story-driven virtual reality game Republique for Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR headsets. In a recent blog post, Camouflaj director Ryan Payton stated that his company plans to develop a “deeply personal and appropriately funny narrative” for the Iron Man VR game where Tony Starks will be confronting some of the ghosts from his past.

The presentation did not divulge much detail about the Iron Man VR gameplay though it was stated that players will have one of Iron Man’s virtual assistants, Friday, provide both mission and combat support during the gameplay.

If you have been up to date with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then you will remember that Friday is the personal assistant whose suit Tony Starks now uploads himself into since the previous assistant, Jarvis, had evolved into Vision during the Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The presentation trailer began with Tony on a plane and having a conversation with Friday. The trailer however noted that the cutscene did not constitute an actual gameplay in the Iron Man VR. The conversation is suddenly interrupted by hacker and a side of the plane is suddenly blown off and Tony sucked into the sky. This part is similar to Iron Man 3. After being blown out, Friday sends him pieces of his suit and armors him up after which Tony flies into the sky after the now falling plane.

The game is to be entirely played in the first person so there won’t be the customary cutscenes. The combat will be a combination of various actions including blasts, flight, repulsor and punching the opponent. Players can wear the PSVR headsets and utilize them to look around themselves since the attacks may come from any direction.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR differs markedly from Marvel’s Spider Man in terms of their approaches to making a video game for the mainline super hero. The Spider Man, as a Sony exclusive offers players an action role-playing game where the player gets into the famous webbed feet of the wall-crawling Spider Man. Here the game is in the third person but the player still gets a realistic feel as if they are the ones web swinging through New York and going after the criminals and thugs with the methodical grace of the real spider man. Many avid fans will hope that Sony has created an equally realistic and engaging gameplay with the Iron Man VR with a new video game that truly evokes a feeling in the player of being the superhero.

Iron Man VR has been scheduled for the PlayStation VR and will be released at some point this year. The virtual reality game could also be a PS4 exclusive since Sony Worldwide Studios is involved in the effort but none of this has yet been verified.
