Initial information on the upcoming Valve Index virtual reality headset had indicated that more details on the release date of the new VR headset may come in May. Now consumers won’t have to wait for long as the tech company may have unwittingly shared information on its upcoming high-powered consumer VR headset release date by posting the Steam page for the VR headset much too early.

A hawk-eyed Twitter user @Wario64 has spotted the product’s Steam page with a clearer image of the headset along with information that the product will begin shipping on June 15th.

The information on the Index launch date was posted briefly on an unfinished Steam page before it was promptly taken down and it not only provided a definite release date but also the clearest image yet of the headset. The company did not divulge any detail about the headset although the image clearly shows that the headset will have its own set of headphones. The images also suggest that users may have the option of purchasing separate base stations along with “Knuckles” motion controllers (now referred to as Valve Index Controllers) in addition to any potential bundles.

The Valve Index placeholder page does not provide full details on the VR headset specs. However, from the image, it is clear that the headset will be wired and will also have integrated headphones, features that are missing in the upcoming Oculus Rift headsets.

Valve has already confirmed these details to other publishers and admitted that even though the information is not comprehensive, the skeletal details that are known so far are accurate.

Users will require a fairly powerful Windows PC that can handle the Valve Index. You are likely to need a dual-core processor that has hyperthreading. The PC specs that you should be looking at include 8GB of RAM and a Radeon RX480 or a GeForce GTX for graphics. Valve wants future users to budget for at least a quad-core CPU along with a GTX 1070-class video.

Beyond what’s shown on Steam, there are additional features that we can expect the Index to have. These are the “safe expectations” that are most certainly going to be there although it’s not immediately decipherable from the image displayed on Steam. The kinds of cameras on the outside, for example, indicate that the headset will have an inside-out tracking that is similar to the one in the Oculus Rift S headset and other recently unveiled headsets. This will give the Valve Index headset a position detection which will not directly need a base station.

The Valve Index controllers’ design features analog sticks and lots of buttons. The outward design doesn’t appear particularly revolutionary from the little we see so far. We’ll get to know what else is in the design during the unveiling in May. However, we already have a clear idea of Valve’s goals for its Index headset design.
