Mozilla’s virtual reality browser Firefox Reality is already available on a host of platform-specific virtual reality portals. However, for the first time, the VR browser will now be available in the fairly neutral Steam thanks to a partnership between the developer and Valve to bring the browser to SteamVR this summer.

Sometime this summer, it will be possible for gamers to download Firefox Reality, a browser for both virtual reality and augmented reality, via SteamVR. Firefox Reality is already available on VR portals such as Oculus, HTC Vive Viveport store and Daydream.

Users will be able to install the new VR browser via a new web dashboard button and then use it in browsing pages through a window that will float over any OpenVR experience. Firefox Reality enable a gamer to surf the web in between virtual reality gaming sessions. It will be a welcome development for avid gamers who need a major browser that they can use without switching between the virtual and real environments and unnecessarily interrupting their VR experience.

You could be playing a VR-capable Steam game but still do a walkthrough of the game via the Firefox VR browser. Users will also be able to do this with multiple headsets be they the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive or via Valve’s recently launched Valve Index virtual reality headset.

The Firefox Reality browser had already been added to the HTC Vive headsets in January and the developer has been working with Valve over the past few months with the goal of bringing Firefox Reality to SteamVR.

This is also coming at an opportune time when Valve is about to start shipments for its Valve Index virtual reality headsets this June. Valve’s integration of the Firefox Reality browser into SteamVR will now put its Valve Index HMD at par with its key competitors, all of which offer users the VR browser service.

The VR browser will enable users to access web content with just a few clicks. This content will include tips and guides and they will even be able to stream a Twitch comment channel without logging out of their immersive experience.

Users also have to log into Firefox only once so as to share the cookies and bookmarks between Firefox on PC and the Firefox Reality.  If you are eager to use it, you can visit Steam and add the Firefox Reality browser to your Wishlist and you will receive a notification as soon as the VR browser is ready.
