The gradual shift into standalone virtual reality headsets is bringing greater portability and convenience into VR experience even if it is coming at the expense of better performance. VR headsets such as the Oculus Go and Oculus Quest are changing how we are experiencing virtual reality: it’s no longer PC- or PS4-bound and limited to the home or studios and it no longer involves convoluted setup process without lots of wires and base stations set up around the home. In the past, using virtual reality required a unique setup with different rooms, multiple shelves and much more. Standalone VR headsets now allow you to carry your headsets along and set them up quickly in the new spaces without much fiddling with the setup.

Virtual reality is no longer something you do exclusively at home or in a studio on your PS4 or PC. Now you can stick your virtual reality headset inside a bag and carry it to a new destination where you can set it up quickly and easily and begin using it almost immediately. With Oculus Quest, the possibilities of portability have expanded considerably and so has the convenience.

Just like the Oculus Go, Oculus Quest is un-tethered. However, it goes a step further, offering users 6DOF tracking as well as two virtual reality Touch controllers that promises users one of the most extensive libraries with some of the best virtual reality games ever released to date.

Granted, packing all this hardware, $400 worth of it, including the headsets, sensitive lenses and other expensive fragile electronics in an ordinary bag where they jostle with other items and even dust can be quite daunting plus there is the risk that you could damage your expensive hardware. Fortunately, the Oculus Quest gear includes a dedicated and official Oculus Quest Travel case where you can pack your virtual reality gear. It looks like this:-

The previous standalone Oculus headset, the Oculus Go, also had a carrying bag. However, it is nothing like the Oculus Quest Travel Case in terms of the build quality, ergonomic design and the stylish look. The Quest Travel Case is beautifully, functionally and ergonomically designed and makes a world of difference when it comes to carrying your Quest gear around.

The Oculus Quest Travel Case has been designed with just sufficient room to fit the Oculus Gear including the two Touch controllers, the Quest headset as well as the charging cord along with the lens wipe. The stuff fits very snugly inside the bag and are securely held in place. The bad news is that the Travel case does not provide room for any other extra stuff. This is just fine as this is a dedicated case that is made exclusively for the Oculus Gear but it will put you at a disadvantage if you wish to carry extra stuff for your VR experience such as a battery pack for an extended use, a longer charging cord or extra face covers when these become available.

Beneath the touch controllers is some spot which opens up but the space is quite tight and won’t fit in anything more than the charging cord and the lens cloth.

The Oculus Quest Travel Case

The Oculus Quest Travel Case has a superb interior design and an exterior shell with a very sturdy build. The zipper is resilient although with frequent usage, it may begin to pose a little problem. Some have reported the zipper getting stuck or the zipper tracks coming apart after repeated use but overall, it will hold just fine.

Verdict

While the Oculus Quest Travel Case is not without issues, it is still a sturdy and beautifully designed bag that will adequately serve your carrying needs when you need to hop to another location with your Quest headset. The space might not be sufficient to pack in a little extra but if you are anticipating traveling frequently and carrying only your Oculus gear, and not any other VR gear and accessories, then this will be a safe and secure and option to store and carry your items. The Oculus Quest Travel Case can be purchased either from Amazon or the official Oculus website.
