There are limited spaces for the OC6 conference. To apply, click here.

Ticket Costs

A regular conference pass for the OC6 goes for $399. Eligible attendees can also qualify for a discounted Developer pass or Student/Academic pass which goes for $199. The Connect ticket purchases are non-refundable. The tickets are not transferable.

How to Qualify for the Developer Pass

If you are actively involved in creating augmented reality or virtual reality, you may qualify for the discounted developer pass. When applying for the Connect conference, reference your work for consideration. Simply self-identifying as a “developer” during the application will not necessarily guarantee you a developer pass. If you have submitted an application, don’t follow up. The organizers will evaluate your application to determine your eligibility for the discounted rate and reach out to you in case they need additional information.

How to Qualify for the Student/Academic Pass

Academic faculty members or students may be considered for the discounted Student/Academic pass rate. This pass will only be availed to verified students or faculty members from accredited universities or colleges.

To qualify for the pass, a student must present a valid student ID as well as proof of enrollment. The academic staff will need to present the proof of full-time employment status at an accredited college or university. Self-identifying as a student or an academic in the application will not guarantee you a discounted rate. Just as with the Developer pass, the organizers will be evaluating your application to determine your eligibility.

Those picked to attend the Connect conference with the discounted rate will be contacted by the registration team and requested to send documentation that verify their student or academic status. If their application is approved, they will receive an invite to register online and send their payment.

A registration will give you a full access to the conference which will include among other things the keynotes, select meals during the event and evening events. The registration does not cover travel and accommodation.

Background

Facebook acquired Oculus in 2014 for a cost of $3 billion. Oculus has faced several woes since its acquisition ranging from lawsuits to staff turnover. The company’s model is targeted on going mainstream and making VR hardware with mass appeal. Oculus has tried encouraging mass VR adoption through very competitive pricing. Its virtual reality headsets are some of the most affordable in the industry.  Oculus has also been releasing a very large lineup of virtual reality headset to suit diverse user preferences, including tethered and standalone VR headsets such as the recently unveiled Oculus Quest.

The Oculus Connect 6 developer conference will be another opportunity for Facebook executives to outline their AR/VR vision. The Connect typically includes a keynote by Mark Zuckerberg.

Oculus has already revealed a sneak-peek of some of the panels that have been scheduled for this year’s Connect. Facebook staff will be discussing how VR is being used for business and how developers can build products that will protect users from bullying and harassment. There will be a session exploring how the AR/VR technologies can be used to “deepen our connection to the world around us”.

Facebook will also be launching new VR games at the Connect 6 conference. Electronic Arts’ Respawn Entertainment is collaborating with Oculus Studios to showcase a new video game during the conference. The conference will also feature representatives from ILMxLAB (the studio behind Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series) who will be discussing the game during the conference. ILMxLAB built the game for Oculus Quest.

The OC6 is the perfect platform to discover cutting-edge innovations, learn about AR/VR development best practices as well as how to distribute your work to a bigger audience if you are a developer.
