Valve announced Friday that its Index virtual reality headset will now be available in all the countries listed in its delivery list. According to tweet posted on Friday, the company stated that the Index headset was now “fully in stock and shipping in all available countries”.

The Index headset has been facing a backlog of orders for quite some time following its launch in April. The headset is currently available in 30 countries. You can check out the list of countries covered here. Valve has also stated that it is planning to expand the regional availability in the future.

The announcement is a clear signal that Valve has finally managed to clear out its backlog of orders that frustrated buyers for months and the package will now be immediately available for purchase and shipping without having to put up with lengthy waiting periods. Previously, Valve had projected that its backorders won’t be shipping until the end of September, a source of frustration for thousands of VR enthusiasts who were eager to lay their hands on the high-spec virtual reality headset.

The Valve Index headset is sold in various packages. There is the full kit which includes the headset, controllers and the base station trackers. There is also a kit with the headset and the controllers but without the base stations. Then there is the standalone VR headset kit. All the three packages are already available for purchase although it appears the stock of the Index controllers is still limited as customers are asked to “Reserve” orders and wait to be notified of the availability later on. However, the base station package is immediately available.

The other SKUs which include the headset and controllers but without the base stations along with the individual packages, base stations and controllers had also been backordered in such large numbers to an extent Valve had stopped taking orders or divulging the estimated shipping date altogether. Instead, buyers had been asked to reserve their spot in line so they could be notified once these products were available.

Currently, apart from the full kit and the individual base stations, all the other SKUs remain backordered. There is also the option to reserve a spot for ordering. However, Valve has assured that these SKUs will also be available soon.

Valve has also promised that the Index hardware will be available in global markets. It currently has availability in just 30 countries in the US and EU but it is not yet apparent if or when the product will be available in other markets.

To coincide with the increase in the availability of the SKUs, the Index has also been put on the shopfronts of Steam for all to see complete with a “Get it Now” call to action (CTA). The advertised price on the Steam page is $500 which is just the cost of the headset alone without the controllers and base stations.

Before the Index launch early this year, Valve had warned that there would be a “limited initial release” in the US and EU markets and that the company would ramp up manufacturing and availability depending on the uptake/demand. It appears that we are now entering the “ramping up” phase following the massive success of the initial release.
