Godzilla VR is a VR arcade attraction that was launched about one year ago at the Osaka VR Zone arcade. Initially, it was launched just for the Japanese market with very low expectations as to its growth prospects. One year down the line, the arcade experience has defied all expectations and is now coming to the “Hollywood Bowl” in London with the possibility of further roll out in other locations.

In Godzilla VR, up to four players will assume the role of helicopter pilots that have to fend off Godzilla’s attack on Tokyo. At the helm of the helicopters, players must dodge the attacks from the monster and shoot back until they reach a point where they will have to shoot a supercock directly into Godzilla’s mouth.

There is a motor chair with a helicopter flight feel

The VR helicopters are controlled by two joysticks that are on the left and the right of the armrests of a physical hydraulic chair as seen above. The chair tilts precisely to match the maneuvers of the helicopter thereby conveying a very realistic helicopter flight feeling as you stave off the attacks by the monster on the terrorized Tokyo city.

Bandai Namco says that its decision to bring the Godzilla VR experience to London was informed by the growing demand for high-end virtual reality experiences. After the London debut, the Japanese video game company is planning to roll out the Godzilla simulator in additional VR Zone Portal locations from next year.

The experience will celebrate 65 years since Godzilla’s first appearance and it will allow fans to be very close to the iconic monster within an action-packed videogame. Bandai Namco Amusement Inc created the experience and it was licensed by Togo Co. Ltd.

The player must weaken the towering Godzilla while also staving off its attacks in order to weaken it. When the monster has been weakened sufficiently, the player can subsequently unleash their secret weapon known as the ‘Blood Coagulant Missile’ into its mouth which destroys the monster and save the day.

For the London experience, Bandai Namco Amusement Europe will, once again, partner with HTC Vive, leveraging the Vive Pro headset. The HTC Vive Pro will be used as the virtual reality headset for the experience. This comes on the back of HTC Vive’s Mario Kart partnership last year.

Users in London can visit the O2 Arena and play the Godzilla VR for GBP4.99. During your visit, you can also try out the Mario Kart VR for just GBP7.99 which includes a go-kart dummy as well as the virtual reality headset. Both of these experiences are available exclusively at the Hollywood Bowl venue.
