There isn’t much change in the headset stats in the latest survey except for the stats for Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest headsets. These four have seen the most significant changes.

The Oculus Quest headset continues to record strong month-to-month growth on the SteamVR platform. In the latest survey, it grew 1.42% after recording a roughly similar 1.43% increase in May. The strong Quest growth on SteamVR could be attributable to the expansion of cable support with Quest recently adding support for USB 2.0 cords for Oculus Link.

The Oculus Link connection enables users with a compatible USB cable and VR-ready PC to play the PC virtual reality content on their Quest headset while still being tethered to their PC. Initially, the Link feature only supported USB 3.0 cables but with the addition of USB 2.0 support, the feature has now been opened up to many other cords. This also means that the Link feature can work with the USB C cords that ships in the box with the Oculus Quest headset.

Users with a VR-ready PC and an Oculus Quest headset are now good to go for Oculus Link connection and have don’t have to shop for a new Link-compatible cable. This might partly explain he strong rise of the Quest percentages on SteamVR. The growth in Quest usage can also be attributed to the headset being more increasingly available in stock late after a long stretch of unavailability.

With the rise in Quest users this month, there are now more Quest users than all the Windows Mixed Reality headset users on SteamVR.

The Valve Index share also grew by 1% for the month of June. In May, the numbers had remained largely constant.

On the other hand, the HTC Vive headset has continued to register a drop in usage. In May, it saw a 0.91% drop. Rift also decreased by 1.28% for the month of May. The total number of SteamVR users with headsets has also gone down by 0.25% to 1.67%.
