Top Selling VR Games on Steam in 2020
With 2020 coming to a close, Valve has published an overview of some of the most successful Steam games of the year.
Valve doesn’t issue any specific sales figures but instead divides the top titles into four categories depending on the total sales: platinum, gold, silver and bronze. The categories are classified as follows: –
Platinum: 1st to 12th place
Gold: 13th to 24th place
Silver: 25th to 40th place
Bronze: 41st to 90th place
Valve’s list only includes VR-exclusive titles and standalone VR ports such as Skyrim. The list does not feature games that support both VR and monitors such as VRChat or No Man’s Sky.
There are a Few New VR Hits in 2020
The platinum category doesn’t feature any major surprises. You will get some of the usual and long-running virtual reality hits such as Superhot VR, Arizona Sunshine and Beat Saber. The only new titles in the platinum category this year include Half-Life: Alyx, Pistol Whip and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.
The Virtual Reality apps released in 2020 and which appear in the gold category include The Room VR, Population: One and Until You Fall.
The Silver category also features a few new titles from this year including Stride, Thief Simulator VR, Into The Radius and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond.
As expected, Half-Life: Alyx was among the top-selling virtual reality games in 2020 according to Steam stats.
In 2019, Beat Saber was one of the top-selling virtual reality games breaching the 2 million mark in terms overall sales. Half-Life: Alyx has similarly crossed a similar number. Also registering the same number on Steam is Steamspy although some copies of the game have been given away to buyers of the Index hardware. Half-Life: Alyx was also one of the most played games with more than 30,000 simultaneous players.
The virtual reality games Until You Fall and VTOL VR also secured a spot among the top early access hits of 2020.
