The headsets also have an inside-out tracking solution and are compatible with SteamVR base stations and Ultraleap hand tracking support. They have a dual resolution “bionic” display with a focus area (27° x 27°) at 70 PPD uOLED and a 1920 x 1920 pixel per eye with a “peripheral area at over PPD LCD, 2880 x 2720 pixels per eye.”

The XR-3 headset is also designed with some specific mixed reality features like LiDAR depth scanner and a stereo RGB video passthrough that runs at 90Hz.

Both the XR-3 and VR-3 headsets were launched in 2020 but the company announced they are now shipping worldwide but they’ll only be available for the enterprise customers with a starting price of about $3000 for the VR-3 headset and up to $5500 for the XR-3 headset that is equipped with extra mixed reality capabilities. Varjo also revealed that it has deepened its collaboration with Unity’s Verified Solutions Partner program so it is guaranteed that the new Varjo headsets will be compatible with Unity. The headsets will also have compatibility with other major platforms and engines like Unreal, FlightSafety Vital, Lockheed Martin Prepar3d and VBS BlueIG.

The Varjo XR-3 is the successor to the Varjo XR-1 and was largely a success, helping the company raise another $54 million in funding in mid least year. There was never an XR-2 headset. The XR-1 was quite pricey, costing about $10,000, some $4,500 more than the new XR-3 headset.

Both the XR-3 and the VR-3 are enterprise-level headsets and will be shipping worldwide. They can be purchased for $5,496 and $3,195 respectively.
