The Sniper Elite franchise developer Rebellion announced last week that Sniper Elite VR is launching on all supported platforms on July 8th, 2021.

The game, which casts the player as an Italian anti-fascist resistance fighter during the Second World War, is set to launch on all the supported VR platforms including Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, PSVR, along with the SteamVR headsets.

Sniper Elite VR is a single-player game focusing on the first-person action and immerses the player across a linear campaign with 18 missions as you purge the Nazi U-Boot menace from Sicily. Apart from the franchise’s iconic x-ray kill cam, Sniper Elite VR also provides free movement locomotion for greater immersion as well as various WWII weaponry in addition to your trusty sniper rifle.

Some bits of the Sniper Elite gameplay have been revealed since the title’s unveiling in March 2019. The VR rendition of the first-person shooter is looking more like a Brute force action than the quiet and pensive shooting seen in Sniper Elite. However, Sniper Elite VR still features various standard mechanics that clearly focus on stealthy shooting.

Players will be able to shoot in the timed explosions that will not give their position away. They can also toggle the breath-holding button to give them a better bead on their opponents. It will be interesting to see whether the VR version of Sniper Elite will remain true to the overall franchise.
