PC VR game Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is set to arrive exclusively for Oculus Quest 2 soon. The title will occupy between 40GB and 45GB of space so if you have the entry level 64GB Quest headset, you will have to clear out the memory to accommodate Medal of Honor.

Oculus Studios senior producer Michael Doran revealed on Reddit that the port will take up between 40 and 45GB.

This might, perhaps, explain why Facebook replaced the 64GB version of the Oculus Quest headset with an equally expensive base model version with 128Gb of storage this summer.

Already, Oculus systems alone take up to 10GB of memory which leaves a user with little more than 50GB of storage space for apps and videos. Anyone planning to install the Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond (MOHAB) must be ready to clear out their storage to accommodate the port.

Installation on 64GB Headset Still Possible

Doran revealed that his team is mostly testing MOHAB on the 64GB version of Quest 2. As a result, installation on that version shouldn’t be a problem. However, if a user installs major updates of the game, they could run out of storage space. Doran confirmed on Reddit that his team has a “plan” to work around this problem.

A sensible solution would entail Respawn giving players the choice of installing the single and multiplayer modes of the game along with the gallery world war documentaries individually. The gallery, particularly, would be dispensable for many players after a one-time viewing. Doran revealed that his team considered as much but argued that the videos aren’t too big and that the compromise of an optional gallery installation wasn’t worth it considering what it would mean for the rest of the game.

More VR Memory Hogs Coming Soon

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is taking too much space considering that the game provides more content than almost any other title that has been developed for virtual reality so far.

In the campaign, players will be visiting different war theaters. In the multiplayer mode, there are twelve maps and five game modes available.

MOHAB isn’t the only memory hog that players will have to reckon with. Oculus’ Doran confirmed that more intensive virtual reality games for Quest glasses are currently in development such as Assassin’s Creed VR and Splinter Cell VR. It is possible that in a year or two, even the 128GB version of the Quest 2 won’t suffice for the intensive and space hungry titles set to launch.

According to Doran, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is scheduled for release “soon”.

Facebook also confirmed that Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will support cross-play.  If you purchased the virtual reality game in the Rift Store, you can get it free for Oculus Quest 2 headset and vice versa. However, the Steam version of the game is excluded from cross-buy. Since the price of the Quest 2 version will be cheaper than that of the Rift version which retails at $40, we expect an adjustment of this price at launch.
