Virtual reality gloves manufacturer Manus has opened pre-orders for its latest finger tracking gloves, the Quantum Metagloves. The company is targeting enterprise customers with its latest product.

The Quantum Metagloves has been designed to deliver more precise finger tracking to users. The design also features optical tracking functionality, a technology that is currently being widely adopted in the immersive industry.

The Netherlands-based company has already launched pre-orders for the Quantum Metagloves with shipping expected to commence in the third quarter of this year. This is likely to fall around September.

The Quantum Metagloves are enterprise-focused and prices begin at $9,000. They ship with a perpetual license along with a two-year warranty. The pricing is for a base unit of the gloves minus 6DoF positional tracking. However, the gloves have optional modules that interface with OptiTrack, SteamVR, and Xsens tracking standards.

These latest gloves are different from Manus’ previous tracking gloves. They leverage a magnetic base that is positioned at the back of the palm. They also track each of the fingers magnetically through corresponding modules that have been nicely fitted on each of the fingertips.

These aren’t haptic gloves and, therefore, do not provide haptic feedback in VR sessions. These are finger-tracking gloves. However, the company has stated that it is working on a haptic version of these gloves that will be designed with per-finger haptics for better immersion in virtual reality.

The gloves are impressive in combating occlusion and in bringing out fine finger movements in VR. They will ship with the following in the box: –

  • The Manus Quantum Metagloves
  • A wireless Manus Dongle
  • A full set consisting of finger tapes
  • A perpetual Manus Core Pro License
  • A timesync cable
  • Three full sets of finger caps (1/2/3)
  • Liner gloves (three sets)
  • A Manus Travel Case

Manus is also providing a trade-in discount program for the benefit of previous owners of Manus’ products who will now get a discount of roughly $3,000 off the Quantum Metagloves’ retail price. Any past owners of products such as Prime X, Prime II, Prime II Haptic, Xsens Gloves, and OptiTrack Gloves by Manus can do trade-ins and get the discount.
