There have been issues with the Virtual Desktop PC VR streaming following recent updates. A new update released last week now fixes those latency issues.

The Quest firmware updates 42.0 and 43.0 have led to higher latencies for Virtual Desktop users from around mid-June. At the end of the last week, the new app version 1.21.1.0 was also released which solves the latency problem. As with other updates, updating the virtual reality app is enough as the PC streamer will automatically update itself once you connect to the PC.

On top of the hotfix, the new app version also has various positive changes such as nicely designed environments which are now a default part of the virtual reality app and don’t have to be downloaded separately like before. If you use app sharing, you will also be able to access these directly without taking any detours.

The new update also improved compatibility with Red Matter 2.

It is now more convenient to display and hide the Performance Overlay simply by pressing the thumbsticks at the same time. The overlay allows users to handily check their current streaming performance.

There is an option for disabling cursor stabilization under the Input Settings in case the feature is becoming a bother.

The touch input of the controllers has also undergone improvement. There is also improvement in the streaming compatibility with a number of games including Ultrawings 2, Until You Fall, and Red Matter 2, a sci-fi epic that was released recently. For more information on all the features and improvements, check out the Virtual Desktop’s Discord server.

If you are planning to wirelessly import your PC into your Quest headset, then the Virtual Desktop is a must-have app.

On top of PC VR streaming, the Virtual Desktop also enables you to work on your PC, stream various formats of immersive videos to your virtual reality headset, and simulate a virtual home theater for both 2D and 3D content.

It has been possible to accomplish all of these without requiring a physical screen since mid this year. All a user needs are a Meta Quest headset and a PC for the data connection.
