Meta is running two low-key but slick metaverse-themed video ads based on an East Africa cycling team called Amani.

Team Amani consists of 12 male and female cyclists drawn from the East African nations of Kenya and Uganda and Rwanda.

In the 60-second Meta video titled “Meet Team Amani”, you can see the team of cyclists using Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp to connect with one another and their fans. A section of the ad also shows the gravel racing team riding a stationary indoor bike with a VR headset on and competing in virtual cycling competitions. The ad also features the online cycling app Zwift.

The description of the “Meet Team Amani” ad on YouTube says the cyclists have used technology to connect and compete and that, at some point, the metaverse will enable them, “and all of us”, to accomplish a lot more.

There is another “Amani” ad on Meta’s YouTube channel which was seemingly filmed at the same time.

Both videos exhibit high production quality and must have cost Meta close to a million dollars. The content is both slick and politically correct and was launched on August 23rd, 2022. However, they have had only a few thousand views, with 14k and 4k views. The low number of views suggests Meta has not promoted the videos yet.
