The Meta Connect 2022 takes place on October 11. A program has been released and it gives insights into some of the main points to be covered at the metaverse conference.

Like the last two Connect conferences, this year’s conference will take place in a digital format and will be streamed live on Facebook.

The conference’s highlight will, of course, be the keynote where it is expected that Mark Zuckerberg will present the new Meta Quest Pro headset and also announce the company’s next metaverse projects.

Following Zuckerberg’s keynote, there will also be a presentation by John Carmack who will be live-streaming from his virtual reality headset. Carmack’s presentation will be focused on the State of Play and should his presentation be in a Meta Quest Pro headset, viewers will get to the facial expressions of his avatar during the presentation to get an inking of the new eye-tracking and face-tracking capabilities of Meta’s upcoming high-end virtual reality headset.

The Meta Connect 2022 will also feature the Developer State of the Union in which the company will provide audiences with an update on the state of the Quest ecosystem. The last time Meta provided stats on these was in February 2022.

Following the main event, the Developer Sessions will go online. These consist of pre-recorded videos featuring talks by Meta developers along with various other representatives from the industry.

Meta Connect 2022 program has now been listed on the Connect official website. The website also lists the Developer Sessions. The program provides a glimpse of what the conference will be about as well as an indication of some of the new features that Meta has been working on.

There are at least three talks that are focused on Meta’s mixed reality interfaces Presence Platform.

With the launch of the high-end Meta Quest Pro headset with its high-quality passthrough next month, the Presence Platform will become even more important. At this year’s Connect event, there will be a talk focusing on the platform’s new features that will also enable the next generation of mixed reality experiences.

There are also two talks that will focus on the advancements in Voice SDK (voice control) along with Interaction SDK (hand tracking and hand interactions).  Meta will introduce the new hand tracking version 2.1 at the Connect conference.

Crayta and Horizon Worlds Synergy

Two of the sessions at the Meta Connect 2022 will focus on the synergy between Meta’s social VR world Horizon Worlds and the collaborative 2D game builder Crayta which Meta acquired in June 2021. In June this year, Meta added the collaborative gaming platform to Facebook Gaming. The platform is, thus, currently running via cloud streaming in the browser as well as on smartphones. The know-how Meta acquired through the Crayta studio will likely be used in the mobile version of Horizon Worlds set to be launched before the end of the year.

One (‘Building Bridges to the Metaverse’) of the two presentations at the Connect suggests that Meta will be pursuing more collaboration between these two metaverse platforms. Another presentation (‘Embracing a New Identity: Integrating Meta Avatars in Already Established Product’) also delves into how Meta avatars have been integrated into Crayta. Meta is also exploring ways in which a metaverse that covers both computing paradigms – virtual reality and 2D – could work.

Enhance Avatars, Meta’s First WebXR Experience

The Connect 2022 will also feature a talk on Meta avatars (‘Meta Avatars SDK|Latest Developments and Learnings for Integrating Avatars’) which explores some of the latest developments in the SDK along with upcoming enhancements.

Another talk (‘Meta Avatars: Our Vision and Roadmap’) is dedicated to both the vision and roadmap of Meta’s avatars. An upgrade of Meta avatars and Horizon Worlds had been announced earlier on and now these enhancements will be showcased at Meta Connect 2022.

There will be two presentations focusing on WebXR (‘Build Great WebXR Experiences’) which is likely to play a key role for Meta in the near future. Meta is also planning to release a WebXR demo for developers that will showcase the best practices for programming top quality and high-performance WebXR experiences.

There is also a teaser of something about the features of the new Meta Quest browser.
