Video Games and Film Crossovers in VR
There is an immense amount of work being done in the virtual reality field, at any given moment. Technology is progressing in leaps and bounds and taking the world of virtual reality with it.
Virtual reality pioneered with the advent of VR video games, and will always remain the main focus in that area. But other fields have started to take an avid interest in this technology, using it to get ahead of the competition. The film industry especially is extremely interested in how they can utilize virtual reality to offer experiences that are one of a kind. There has been work done in the year 2014 on 360 degree movies and films, which goes to show that virtual reality has a booming future in the entertainment industry. Films like ‘Zero Point’ and ‘11:57’ illustrate how virtual reality can elevate cinema to an entirely new level.
With the success virtual reality has granted both video games and the film industry, two companies came up with the brilliant idea to work together and create the first ever video game and movie crossover. This major partnership will be launched soon between nDreams (virtual reality developer) and Virtual View Productions (virtual reality filmmaker). The goal of this collaboration is to launch a completely original experience as well as capitalize on the popularity of both VR video games and movies.
Virtual Reality Los Angeles event (VRLA) served as the platform to announce this official partnership from. Both companies claim to do their best to explore this entirely new phenomenon of exactly how to utilize the crossover of video games with film. They have not released any information about what they will be doing and how; they just announced that they will try to work on some sort of project that combines both hugely popular industries.
Virtual View Productions CEO – Stuart Gallop – was quoted saying: “VR represents an exciting new era in entertainment content and will provide content creators a new way to engage audiences in ways never possible before. Working with nDreams and the experienced and talented team they have will provide us with a great partner who shares our passion for VR entertainment and will help us create stunning new VR experiences for audiences.”
nDreams in itself is a known right when it comes to developing VR video games. The most anticipated upcoming new titles are “Gunner”, “Perfect Beach” and “The Assembly”.
