IMAX Opens First VR Center in LA
IMAX opened the first VR Theater in Los Angeles of many yet to come. It allows anyone to enjoy Virtual Reality without buying expensive console settings or high-end gaming PCs. The VR center features a mix of Starbreeze StarVR and HTC Vive headsets, which are stored in 14 pods along with a Dbox cinema chair, a vibrating Subpac vest, and controllers. You can either get an individual experience or a ‘sampler’ to taste several VR movies.
IMAX Plans To Build Additional VR Theaters
IMAX has been planning this VR expansion for over a year but it isn’t the first one to do it. MK2, located in Paris, build similar Virtual Reality theaters to immerse customer into exciting experiences. VR cinemas, as normal cinemas did in their time, will be pretty useful to provide different and exciting entertainment for people. But not only that, it will also promote Virtual Reality and make it affordable and accessible for people that haven’t still tried the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift. You can now simply buy a ticket and enjoy it for a while.
IMAX will start with an interesting set of movies and games that include The Walk Eagle Flight, and Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine. The company is also developing original content in order to stand out and has already raised $50 million for the development and construction of more VR Theaters. California, New York, the UK, and China are on the waiting list but IMAX must first prove that its VR Center in LA is successful. We are confident that Virtual Reality Theaters will be a very good step in the mass adoption of VR.
