Haptics Will Literally Make You Feel The Moment
Haptics is the same technology used in Virtual Reality that applies tactile sensation to our video games, apps and even media. But this time is coming in the form of a small wearable device called ‘Moment’. Moment draws tactile shapes on your wrist using advanced haptic feedback.
Somatic Labs’ Moment Is Truly Sensational
Moment is a wearable device build by Somatic Labs that looks like a watch but, unlike smartwatches, it does not have a screen, instead it comes with haptics technology to communicate with you. The device turns real time data into vibrational tactile sensations that you will feel on your skin.
This innovative piece of hardware is currently preparing for production to reach the markets soon. Gadget and Tech enthusiasts are already making pre-orders from the Somatic Labs website in order to be among the first trying this new toy. The moment will reportedly start shipping to customers this coming Fall of 2016.
What Can You Do With The Moment?
Moment can work as a very discrete (007 Agent level of discretion) invisible caller ID. You’ll always know who is calling or texting you just by feeling the rhythm of your contacts in your wrist, never having to interrupt an important conversation again.
You can also use it as a silent or hidden GPS navigational tool that will provide you with instructions using silent vibrational tactile shapes drawn on your skin. This way you’ll keep your eyes on the road and your head over your shoulders.
There are many other different applications, like a setting that will let you feel how time passes with a vibration every time it reaches the preset interval. In common English, this would be like a tactile timer that you can set every 30, 45, 60 or any number of minutes. Another interesting application is the Calendar Integration, it will remind you any schedule or important date with an specific tactile reminder.
What’s Inside The Moment?
The wearable will sport a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with up to 1 week of battery life, enough to making a short vacation without having to worry about electricity. It will also include an anodized stainless steel enclosure that definitely looks premium, a 22mm silicone replaceable watch strap resistant to sweat; which comes in handy for people that make sports. And 4 brushless linear resonant actuators that make the vibration experience happen.
You will be able to charge The Moment almost anywhere by using a microUSB port. The device uses Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity to seamlessly connect with your Android or iOS smartphone and you’ll be able to download the Moment App from the Apple Store or Google Play. There will also be an open SDK for developers that wish to make interesting apps for this gadget.
You can pre-order your own $129 Moment from the Somatic Labs’ website.
