Windows Mixed Reality Headsets Are On Preorder
Microsoft finally made its Windows Mixed Reality Headsets available for preorder, but this version is the developer edition, not intended for general consumers.
HP’s & Acer’s Windows Mixed Reality Headsets
Microsoft wants to bring virtual and augmented reality experiences to everyone, and they are very close to doing that with the new headsets coming out very soon. The company announced that HP’s and Acer’s Windows Mixed Reality headsets are already available for pre-order in the United States and Canada. Both devices, which are intended for developers, will arrive this summer shipping right from the Microsoft Store. Pricing starts at $299 for the Acer headset and $329 for the HP one.
“The headsets use state-of-the-art, inside-out tracking so you don’t need to set up external cameras or IR emitters to have a truly immersive experience as you move with six degrees of freedom (6DoF) in mixed reality. You’ll be ready to code new mixed reality experiences out of the box with a headset and a Windows 10 Creator’s Update PC that meets our recommended hardware specifications for developers. We invite developers to join the Windows Insider program to receive the latest mixed reality experiences from Microsoft each week.”
Acer also has a $399 bundle that features Microsoft’s new motion controllers, but the controllers won’t be available soon, you will have to wait for the holiday season. Microsoft claims it is already working with partners and developers to create new experiences with its Windows Mixed Reality software kit, which helps developers create universal applications for the AR/VR ecosystem.
