HTC Promises an Update for Vive Cosmos Tracking Problems
HTC’s new Vive Cosmos virtual reality headsets have been available from October 3rd. The first testers have been impressed with the headset’s sharp and excellent image resolution and wearing comfort. However, in spite of its good points, users have noted a basic tracking problem: tracking issues in low light.
When the ambient light is dimmed slightly, the Vive Cosmos headsets fail to function and display a warning message that the lighting is not bright enough for accurate tracking. The headset wearer is subsequently requested to improve the light situation. The warning cannot be bypassed so unless the user improves the room lighting, they are unable to proceed.
Ok – maybe we were a little too afraid of the dark. We have already adjusted our lowlight notifications so you should be good to explore Cosmos for hours on end. Our engineering team is continuing to fine tune notifications and light tracking from various sources.

In a Twitter update, HTC has stated that the low light notifications have already been “adjusted” so users will be able to use the virtual reality headset for an extended period of time. The HTC developers will continue working on fine-tuning alerts and tracking for different kinds of lighting conditions.
HTC hasn’t announced when this update will be released and whether it is likely to improve the tracking as promised. As soon as there is an update on the Vive Cosmos tracking issues, we will report it here.
