The Singapore-based startup Megadodo Simulation Games which also developed the upcoming PC VR headset DecaGear announced last week that its hip-based virtual reality locomotion device DecaMove has so far generated more than $350,000 in sales during its month-long preorder campaign.

DecaMove has been designed to improve virtual reality navigation by tying the direction of the navigation to the wearer’s hips thereby moving it away from the standard methods of hand as well as head-relative movement. The DecaMove device clips to a wearer’s belt and then transmits data to an included Bluetooth dongle thereby practically eliminating the need for thumbstick-based locomotion.

The puck-like device provides support for SteamVR-compatible headsets such as Oculus Rift S, Valve Index, HP Reverb G2, Oculus Quest headset (via Oculus Link), HTC Cosmos, HTC Vive/Pro, Samsung Odyssey, and DecaGear 1.

DecaMove allows a user to navigate with their body and frees up their hands for interaction and their heads to freely spectate around, according to a statement on the company’s website. According to DecaGear, hip-based navigation allows for a more natural movement and also creates next-level immersion thereby helping reduce motion sickness. According to the company, its DecaMove locomotion device helps improve the overall posture of a player’s in-game character. It also sends haptic feedback when a player gets hit.

Megadodo stated that it has sold over 6,000 DecaMove units netting more than $350,000 in revenues. The device is priced at $59 and the first consumer units are expected to begin shipping from June 2021.

The preorder campaign has officially ended but in a blog post, the company states that it still retains sufficient capacity to manufacture more units outright with shipping arriving as early as August. According to DecaGear, its $59n pricing will not change “until this capacity is met.” When it goes on direct sale in January 2022, DecaMove will be priced at $69.
