The zero-gravity VR sports game for Oculus Quest and Rift, Echo VR, has just launched its second ‘Echo Season’ which will, for a limited time allow players to snap limited-time cosmetic rewards that they have earned from playing matches. This will be open to everyone but users that have the paid Premium Pass can head straight and obtain the gear.

Echo VR was originally known as Echo Arena and was initially slated for sale for $20. However, after a partnership with Oculus, it was made free indefinitely. The game’s developer Ready At Dawn, which has since been acquired by Facebook, has focused its efforts on funding development with a monetization model where users get a chance to grind or purchase the cosmetic-focused reward tiers.

Echo Pass Season 2 was launched on June 8th and ends on August 22nd to Quest and Rift players and allows them to earn cosmetic items in 50 reward tiers. According to Ready At Dawn, these will include character customizations, personal Tier Experience Points (TXP) boots, heraldry, group TXP boosts as well as Echo Points.

There is a great selection of stuff that you will be able to earn (or buy) in the Echo Pass Season 2. These include bracers, new boosters, emblems, banners, and tags. Many of the tags are coming in an array of colors and styles with some of these such as the Anubis helmet and cool scarab booster being inspired by Ancient Egyptian mythology.

Just like in Echo Pass Season 1 that was released in March, the TXP is earned when you play matches which subsequently unlocks the sequential reward tiers.

You can also opt to purchase an “Echo Pass premium” which has 1,000 ‘Echo Points’ and which you can buy as add-on content via the Oculus Store. The premium pass enables to unlock specific reward tiers in 200-point bundles. This will convert into actual cash as follows: –

  • $5- 500 Echo Points
  • $10- 1,000 Echo Points + 50 Bonus which totals to 1,050 Echo Points
  • $20 – 2,000 Echo Points + 140 Bonus which totals 2,140 Echo Points
  • $59 – $5,000 Echo Points + 450 Bonus totaling to 5,450 Echo Points

Ready At Dawn plans to introduce more ways to redeem Echo Points at some point later in the year. Just as in its battle passes, if the monetization model won’t hurt the balance and will keep people engaged, players might regard it as an overall win as they often come back for new content while the studio remains engaged in further development.
