List of Confirmed PSVR 2 Launch Titles
With the PSVR 2 headset release date now known, here is a lineup of the confirmed PSVR 2 titles that will be available when the headset hits the market.
The PlayStation VR launch games have already been announced. Sony also announced a number of titles that will be released alongside the PSVR2 launch 2 and which will be in close proximity to the new hardware. To sell its new virtual reality headset and encourage greater buy-in, Sony needs an impressive line-up of launch titles that will aid in selling the new headset. The PSVR2 headset will cost $549.99.
The only killer title known so far for Sony’s new hardware is the new Horizon game. That will fall short of the expectations of many VR enthusiasts who will be coughing up $550 for the headset.
The PSVR 2 headset is launching on February 22, 2023. So far, 11 titles have been confirmed for the headset but only a few of these will be available at launch four months from now.
A number of third-party developers have also announced several titles for PSVR 2 that will be available at launch. The VR title The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR listed the same release date as the PSVR 2 on the PlayStation Store. However, it now appears that this was merely placeholder information and it is not described as a PSVR 2 launch title in any official channel.
It is likely Sony will issue a raft of PSVR-related announcements in the run-up to the launch date in late February 2023. We can expect a good chunk of these announcements as part of a dedicated PSVR 2 State of Play event. As of now, however, here is a look at the confirmed PSVR 2 launch titles.
Horizon Call of the Mountain
This is the most high-profile game that will be available on PSVR 2 at launch. Horizon Call of the Mountain is a virtual reality rendition of the Horizon series. This title was announced at the beginning of this year as one of the first PSVR 2 launch titles. In this game, the player assumes the role of Ryas who is a former Shadow Carja Warrior and who has to survive the wilderness. Aloy isn’t cast as the main character in this PSVR 2 rendition although she still makes an appearance as an NPC that the player will encounter in the story.
Horizon Call of the Mountain is a first-person shooter game. It has been compared to a rail shooter. The visuals in the game are superb and bring out the feel of the other entries in the series. This could be a highly successful PSVR 2 launch title.
Zenith: The Last City
Zenith: The Last City is already available on other virtual reality platforms and will also be available on day 1 of PSVR 2’s launch. It is a virtual reality action RPG MMO. The game is still in Early Access on Steam.
The launch of the PlayStation VR 2 headset in February next year will coincide with an update to Zenith: The Last City. The update will bring a major graphical overhaul to the game. It will add a new gameplay mechanic in which players can capture and summon monsters. It also adds a new boss to Zenith: The Last City. If you played the game on PSVR, you can upgrade for free on PSVR 2.
Swordsman VR
Swordfights come to PlayStation VR 2 with Swordsman VR which will be available at launch in February next year. The title’s developer SinnStudio made the announcement on Twitter stating that the title will be available on PSVR 2 at launch and those who already own the title on PSVR might be able to upgrade it for free in PSVR 2. The developers promised to divulge more details about the free PSVR 2 upgrade by the end of the year.
Swordsman VR will maximize on PSVR2’s Sense Controllers, a handy feature for a game that is all about exhilarating sword fighting. It will leverage the controllers to mimic the feeling of a real sword and shield as a player fights on and dismembers their opponents.
Swordsman VR has various historical factions along with the campaign, event as well as horde modes.
Cities: VR – Enhanced Edition
Cities: VR is already available on multiple other platforms. However, the PSVR 2 version of the game will be the best one. The version for Quest 2 is known as Cities: VR. However, the one that will launch with the PSVR 2 headset is known as Cities: VR– Enhanced Edition. The PSVR 2 version is ‘Enhanced’ as it features better graphics and additional plots. With the new Sense Controllers, the game’s players can also easily manipulate their environment.
Among Us VR
Among Us VR launches on a number of virtual reality platforms on November 10. The title will also be available on PSVR 2 when the headset launches next year. Among Us VR is already available on Meta Quest 2, Steam VR, and the current PSVR version. Players in Among Us VR must survive or hunt in the first person. Extra mini-games have also been added to maximize the new format. The new version of Among Us will also have other changes including Skeld 2 as a new map. It will also support crossplay with all the virtual reality platforms.
After The Fall
The first-person shooter After The Fall will be available on PSVR2 at launch. The title’s developers Vertigo Games announced that the PSVR2 version of the game will be available on the headset at launch. This is a four-player co-op shooter in which players must collaborate to fend off hordes of zombies. The gameplay loop in After The Fall is almost like that of the original Left 4 Dead. Like in the former, After The Fall features Undead (called Snowbreed) with powerful mutant variants who possess their own special strengths and weaknesses. After The Fall has been a highly acclaimed VR title and it is a huge plus that it will be available on PSVR2 at launch.
Sony’s official channels and other sources have already announced several games for PSVR2. However, it is the above games that have been confirmed for the headset’s launch. As we approach the launch date, expect to see additional announcements and confirmations of other PSVR2 launch titles.
