PSVR 2 Demo Shows Impressive Finger Tracking Function
A new PSVR 2 demo shows the headset has impressive hand-tracking capabilities. The video has been shared on Twitter over the past few days. The video was taken from a public PSVR 2 demo.
In the video, a person using the new generation PSVR 2 headset is demonstrating the accuracy of its hand and finger tracking by repeatedly running their hands through their surroundings.

At the same time, Sony has filed a patent for gameplay NFTs that have been generated from a player’s gaming moments.
In the PSVR 2 finger tracking demo posted on Twitter, the tester who is playing what looks like Horizon Call of the Mountain waves their hands for a while, and then boards a canoe. The user is able to lean down on either side and even run their hands through the water. The experience looks like a demo of Horizon Call of the Mountain but it perfectly demonstrates the finger-tracking capabilities of the new PSVR 2 headset. It showcases how the real finger movements are translated from the headset’s Sense controllers into virtual reality.
The tech in the Sense controllers can fully replicate the user’s hands in virtual reality and allows the translation of small finger movements as three-dimensional inputs. The video shows the tester moving their individual fingers and alternately wiggling several fingers up and down. They even touch the virtual water and spread their fingers during a boat ride.
The accurate translation of hand movements in virtual reality is partly realized by the pressure sensors on the Sense controllers. The virtual reality headset detects the way the controllers are held and thus accurately represents hand movements in virtual reality.
The controller can lose the connection or experience issues with detecting the pressure points in which case an AI system in the virtual reality headset will take over and complete the hand animations.
These are stored across devices. Sony has cited the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles along with the PlayStation VR 2 headset as supported devices. This will also enable users to view an asset’s history and get insight into all the metadata and previous users.
Overall, the PSVR 2 finger tracking demo looks impressive. The headset is scheduled to launch on February 22, 2023 so it is possible that we might see more of such demo sessions that users can test.
