Rapid Prototyping Tool ShapesXR is Now Available on Quest
ShapesXR is a robust co-creation and collaboration tool that enables Quest headset users to meet up and then work collaboratively to build out ideas in the metaverse.
The rapid prototyping tool enables remote product teams to participate in brainstorming and ideation sessions in 3D. The tool allows you to do rapid prototyping, instant sharing as well as real-time co-editing. You can use ShapesXR to begin creating in 3D in a matter of minutes even if you don’t have prior experience with the tool. You can also use it to create immersive storyboards that showcase your design in function and that can easily invite other team members to ideate, iterate, or run design reviews.
ShapesXR enables you to easily create immersive scenes and rapidly populate these with 3D assets via an easy-to-use VR development app. Teamwork is crucial to the success of many projects but there are instances where things can get a little messy when it comes to communicating the idea, particularly when the participants are working remotely. ShapesXR enables you to present your ideas in three dimensions through a collaborative virtual reality environment which makes remote collaboration and prototyping a lot easier for all those involved.
ShapesXR is a rapid prototyping and design tool that you can use to create both virtual reality and augmented reality experiences directly on an Oculus Quest headset. You can also leverage the tool to collaborate on projects with your team and share this directly across the web. This is a fairly easy-to-use prototyping tool compared to others that tend to have a steeper learning curve and require some coding experience. ShapesXR gets rid of all the complexities and presents you with an interactive onboarding process that allows you to build using your hands instead of via a complex computer language.
This robust co-creation tool was developed by Tvori and gives remote teams a perfect solution to communicate with one another and collaborate on projects using the Oculus Quest headset. Without a Quest headset, the products can still be viewed on a web browser, providing users with near-constant access to the project as well as the team. ShapesXR is game engine friendly allowing you to easily port projects into something such as Unity.
Tvori CEO and Co-Founder Inga Petryaevskaya stated in a press release that the ShapesXR tool was created out of her company’s frustrations. During the development of Tvori, her team missed a tool that allows for remote collaboration and rapid prototyping. Some of the challenges her team faced included difficulty in quick iteration, how to have productive conversations as a remote team as well as challenges with moving forward and testing new features without having to code in Unity. Petryaevskaya says her team wanted to ideate spatially together and communicate their ideas in virtual reality. She states that collaboration and ease of use were the top priority and acceptance criteria for the ShapesXR tool.
ShapesXR works like other VR apps such as Gravity Sketch and Tilt Brush. You will use your Touch controllers to get access to a menu of pre-made parts as well as functions. You only have to select what you want and then upload it into your workspace. The tool allows you to adjust the size of the objects, change colors, add components and get access to other actions and functions. SpacesXR has a clean and easy-to-navigate workspace.
Co-workers in ShapesXR are presented as floating VR headsets and enable you to interact and communicate with each other. There is no steep learning curve with ShapesXR and you need just a few minutes to learn how to build on the platform. As you spend more time on ShapesXR, you will learn how to create robust assets on the platform much more quickly.
ShapesXR also allows you to perform live tests of your creations and to work out the bugs before you make the creation publicly available. You can also bring someone from outside the team to your project team by sharing the project through a code that the invitee can use to get into the workspace.
Tvori boss Inga Petryaevskaya has worked on creation and animation concepts for years having released Tvori animation tools on Steam as far back as 2016. Her latest tool, ShapesXR, is an easy-to-use platform for conceptually building spatial ideas before these are coded in an engine.
The tool saves you from having to make costly and time-consuming transitions from 2D to 3D. With a tool like ShapesXR, you can easily test your future game by writing just one line of code and your creation will already have the right spatial aspects of it.
You can download ShapesXR for free on the Oculus App Lab. It supports both Quest and Quest 2 headsets. To invite others into your space, you only need to share a simple room code. The free SpacesXR software gives you access to all the creation tools but it has a limit on the number of projects and spaces that you can create. There is a Pro subscription that goes for $9.99 per month that adds more spaces that one can build.
