Welsh Company Building a Mediverse Metaverse Platform for Training Healthcare Professionals
A Welsh company is building a healthcare training metaverse platform dubbed the “Mediverse.”
The system is already being used by a number of medical institutions in South Wales. The Mediverse aims to connect medical professionals and provide virtual reality training for healthcare professionals from the comfort of their homes.
The Mediverse is being created by the Welsh startup Goggleminds and is described as a virtual reality space in which medical students and healthcare professionals can interact with other people and computer-generated environments.
The Mediverse digital platform focuses on delivering medical VR training, a kind of metaverse for medicine. It is different from other medical virtual training apps in the way it allows professionals as well as medical students to access it from virtually anywhere and connect with one another at both a national and international level.
The app recreates clinical scenarios virtually just as they appear in real life. It enables surgeons, doctors, students and medical nurses to test skills and also consolidate knowledge without putting themselves or their patients in danger.
Mediverse provides various virtual reality experiences such as simulations for nurses and medical students that allow them for to prepare their students for procedures properly. The VR app maker Goggleminds has also partnered with the University of South Wales for virtual training for pediatric applications.
The startup says it leverages the power of virtual reality to recreate clinical scenarios as well as clinical environments that can replicate the things that medical practitioners do in real life. The virtual reality technology enables nurses, surgeons and medical students to test out their skills and retain knowledge without exposing themselves or their patients to danger.
The virtual reality training is geared at delivering a positive experience to medical students and practitioners learning the new skills and also making this type of learning more accessible.
The use of virtual training in the healthcare is one of the most practical applications of the technology. The use of immersive technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality could potentially evolve into a multi-billion-dollar technology. According to market researchers, this industry will be worth approximately $10 billion by the end of 2027.
Beyond training applications, virtual reality is being used in other areas in the medical field. Some hospitals in the UK are using virtual reality as an anesthetic as well as in various kinds of medical therapy.
