Cable News Network Big Debut in Virtual Reality

CNN has already produced more than 50 news stories in 360-degree videos as a way to incursion in Virtual Reality. It even partnered up with NextVR to live stream the Democratic presidential debate back in 2015. Jason Farkas, CNN Vice President of Premium Content Video, said VR provides a good opportunity for all journalists to transport audience and give a lasting impression.

“I believe VR is the most powerful tool we have to accomplish that goal. The whole experience feels like time-travel: you put on a headset, and suddenly you are somewhere else, feeling remarkably close to the story. You are in the story – or at least your senses tell you that you are. The viewer walks away feeling the emotional impact much more viscerally, and memorable.”

CNN is not the only one to provide VR news, nor is it the first one either. The Huffington Post already started to offer Virtual Reality videos last year and The New York Times created its very own daily VR content space called The Daily 360. CNNVR’s videos are already available on PC, the CNN app is downloadable for Android and iOS mobile devices, Oculus Rift, Samsung GearVR, and Google Daydream.
