Catan the Boardgame Comes to Virtual Reality
Old games are rocking and new remakes are always welcomed, but this time is different because Catan is not a classic videogame, it is a classic BOARD game.
Catan – Taking the Fun from the Table to the VR Headset
If you have played Catan with your family or friends before you will definitely love this virtual experience, the game is a territory-building board game but brought to VR. Catan was developed by Experiment 7, an experienced VR developer with the collaboration of publisher Asmodee Digital and the Catan Company itself. The game will be available for the Samsung Gear and the Oculus Rift this holiday season, soon other platforms might follow.
Catan VR is true to the classic board game but with the immersion and fun of Virtual Reality, the game allows fans and newcomers alike to experience the board game in a new and interesting VR format. You will be able to play with people from all over the world, or maybe the AI in the form of Catan personalities. Anyone can watch the island come to life in Virtual Reality in all its awesomeness with beautiful environments and cross-play functionality.
“The first time I saw Catan on the Magic Table, I was fascinated by what VR has to offer. The game I made in our living room with my family 25 years ago in Virtual Reality? It’s incredible. I never imagined actually stepping into the world of Catan when we first started making cut-outs and dreaming about exploring new lands.”
Said Catan creator, Klaus Teuber.
The VR version of Catan is pretty much like the original board game version, you put your VR headset and immerse yourself in the game. Experiment 7 is the same developer of popular games Dungeon Chess and Magic Table Chess, where you play chess with monsters from Dungeon and Dragons.
