The Game of Thrones series might have ended but it is just about to get a virtual reality treatment. HTC and HBO have just announced that there will be an exclusive Game of Thrones experience on Viveport Infinity from today, May 31.

The VR-only title is dubbed Beyond the Wall and takes users to the northern border of The Seven Kingdoms where they will have to fight and defend The Wall. Players will be able to test their swordsmanship against a horde of wights and some scary undead polar bear. The Game of Thrones VR rendering launching on Viveport Infinity subscription service will support both Rift and Vive headsets.

In the VR title Beyond the Wall, you will use a flaming sword to take on an army of the dead which will include the undead polar bear and the wights. HBO partnered with Framestore for the title and the game will from today be available in multiple countries including the US, UK, Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Mexico.

Framestore, a digital effects company, developed the virtual reality title. The studio has had quite some pedigree in the film industry so expect the virtual reality rendering to look just as good. If it turns out well, it will certainly satisfy the curiosity of the immersion-itchy GoT fans who want to try out the game in a virtual reality environment and cut down the zombies using their swordsman’s skills.

Not much is known about Beyond the Wall at this time. According to an HTC press release on the subject, GoT players will take the role of a member of the Night’s Watch. At a certain point in the gameplay, they will wield the flaming sword. The VR game will be occurring in the later events that take place in the GoT series. The experience will last seven minutes and will be spoiler-free, with an emphasis on the action.

Sword-fighting VR experiences are becoming a popular niche in VR. They have grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years with hits such as Fruit Ninja VR. For the Game of Thrones fans, Beyond the Wall promises an exhilarating experience. We can’t wait for the launch to try out the immersive sword combat.

You won’t be limited to HTC Vive headset for the GoT experience. The Viveport store-front provides VR fans with a system-agnostic subscription platform as well as home interface for multiple virtual reality headsets. The Beyond the Wall VR experience provides support for both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. However, the VR title will be exclusive to the Viveport Infinity subscription service that can be purchased for a monthly fee of $12.99.

Viveport has been busy this week. Just yesterday, the platform added support for the Windows Mixed Reality system. With that extension of support for the Windows XR platform, the Viveport Infinity now provides support for all the popular PC-based virtual reality brands as well as various mobile devices. Add the fact that a $12.99 subscription gives you access to more than 600 virtual reality titles and the value becomes apparent. The Infinity platform currently offers the best deal for gamers.

Infinity has had other recent releases including the cool target shooter game Gun Club VR along with Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted which is a $39.99 premium VR experience for Viveport Infinity subscribers.

For a live play-through of the Game of Thrones, check out Vive Live on Twitch today at 12PM PST.
