Solar System for Oculus Rift
There has been a long standing fascination of ours with the universe, especially our solar system. With the advent of Oculus Rift’s virtual reality headset, this obsession has grown a hundred fold.
There have been many video games and simulation stories focused on space, space travel and shooting in space. A lot of adventures have been based with the solar system as our background. Along with some previous popular games, new ones are popping up all the time. One example of this is ‘Cosmonaut’ – a game set in space that focuses on the endless silence and depressing darkness all around in space. It is a tension fraught game that keeps the player on his or her toes throughout. Then there are some games developed solely for the purpose of learning more about the universe and its quirks. These simulations are set on providing an education experience to the user without him having to escape from dangerous situations and avoid crazy aliens looking to posses his body and soul. The players can easily explore space at their leisure and learn extremely interesting facts about outer space that were previously obscure. A simulation game called ‘Solar System’ by indie developer Scott Wilson is one such example.
Solar System is an incredibly informative simulation game that allows the players to calmly explore outer space along with our solar system. The user can easily navigate his spaceship through different planets and get to learn about them through Solar System. Earth, Mars and Jupiter are among the various planets that the player can visit and learn about through his or her virtual reality headset constructed by Oculus Rift. The biggest risk with using this headset is the dizziness, nausea, disorientation and motion sickness that occur. The developer has tried his best to keep all of these at a minimum while constructing Solar System. Scott Wilson claims that players will definitely feel relaxed during game play and will be able to explore without having to worry about negative ill effects of using the virtual reality headset. The game has been made compatible with Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2). As it has just been launched, Solar System is pretty simple and straightforward. Its main goal is to educate and encourage learning about the universe but the developer has promised to add more high-grade updates to make the game more interesting in the future. Solar System is available for download at the Oculus Share site. Virtual Reality Times will keep updating you with the latest news about the game.
