Worldpay, a British payment processing company, just decided to bring its payment services to Virtual Reality so you can easily pay for in-game items.

Worldpay Allows Real Payments in VR Worlds

The company used an HTC Vive headset for its prototype. With Worldpay, you can pay for in-game items using only the Vive’s controllers in order to pick the item, which reveals a bubble with the price tag.

If you look at the price tag for a while, you will be prompted to another stage where you can make the purchase. You would be using a virtual version of your or debit or credit card and hold it over a VR payment terminal. In case you need to type in a PIN, you will be able to do so by aiming at some number bubbles that appear around you in a random order.

VR payments are expected to work just like real life payments, so there isn’t much innovation with this, but who would want to change something that works so far so good? Of course, there are new and modern forms of payment such as cryptocurrencies networks, but not everyone is familiar with it and companies such as Worldpay prefer to sacrifice innovation to promote confidence.
