2016 Rio Olympics Will Broadcast Events In VR
NBC will be broadcasting the 2016 Rio Olympics in Virtual Reality, or at least the most important bits of it. Among the 85 hours of promised VR content, you’ll be able to see the opening and closing ceremonies. Some of the sports that will also fancy this technology will be fencing, boxing, diving, beach volleyball, track and field, gymnastics and men’s basketball.
Virtual Reality Olympics Won’t Free For Some
The events that the NBC will broadcast are only going to be available for Samsung’s Gear VR headset, through a section of NBC’s Sports smartphone app. Apart from requiring a Samsung smartphone, people will also need a paid TV subscription, as they need when they watch common NBC broadcasts online. Even though VR videos can frequently be seen as flat 360 degrees videos without a VR headset, we’re not sure that this will be possible in this case.
The BBC is planning to provide this virtual reality service through a smartphone app. People will be attaching their phones to Google’s cheap cardboard headsets in order to see some of the Olympic Events in virtual reality.

The Olympic Channel
On August 21 the International Olympic Committee will be making history by launching the Olympic Channel, from where you’ll be able to watch most of the events. The platform will be available all over the world through a mobile app for iOS and Android devices and you’ll be able to download it from olympicchannel.com.
Additionally, the Olympic Channel is also available on their new social media accounts in YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Olympics can also sign up for updates in their website.
This new channel will be free and will present news, live sports events, original programming and interesting information regarding sports and athletes. The Olympic Channel will also contain long-form and short-form content, and will focus on the best athletes, their path to success and sports from all over the world.
