6 Non-Gaming Applications for Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality is often associated with gaming or gaming PCs, but Forbes, a business magazine that’s always keeping an eye on VR news, just made an interesting review to show how wrong that association is. Virtual Reality has already many applications and it intends to have much more.
The Future of Virtual Reality Is Beyond Gaming
These are 6 of the most interesting and feasible VR applications that already exist or are soon to be released in the market:
1. Training Firefighters, Policemen, or the Military
Virtual reality allows firefighters to get familiar with the field without actually risking themselves by doing it. Despite the costs of VR equipment, it is still much cheaper than creating a whole fake setup for firefighters, police agents and even soldiers.
2. Virtual Reality Shows
This is something that is already happening, many events and even museums are incorporating Virtual Reality experiences to their show. Maybe the next step is to witness a whole event in VR without ever leaving the comfort and the cheap beers and food of your home.
3. Professional Presentations
It is rather obvious, flat screens were never enough for us. Even with 3D presentations, the limitations are many. There are numerous professions that need to showcase their work or design in a more realistic way. While others need to have a better look at objects to get a better insight. Architects, engineers, scientists, and even artists are benefiting of VR environments.
4. Medical Training and Simulation
Maybe this isn’t for everyone, but training surgeons can be less complicated (at first) with Virtual Reality. Virtual Reality can create an environment in which the learning student can try different things and allow himself to make mistakes without actually damaging a corpse. Usually, students learn by watching a more experienced doctor playing with the body (of the dead person, of course). With a VR headset, they can spend hours watching very immersive videos of surgeries and even practice with a simulator.
5. Business Conferences and Presentations
You think Virtual Reality is something for boys? Just wait and watch the big guys with money having VR conference meetings and VR business presentations. You can’t sell something that you can show, and a VR headset will let you show much more than using paper or a screen. There are already Real State companies making VR tours of their houses for their customers.
6. VR Therapy
There is a major potential in healthcare for virtual reality, but one of the most tangible ones is therapy. People would get the chance to fight and overcome their fears with VR experiences. They can treat their anxiety disorders and even remove stress with immersive 360° videos. Self-treatment VR apps are much closer than we think.
