Graphics processor manufacturer NVIDIA will be participating at the Game Developers’ Conference to be held on 2-6 March 2015 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. This is to initiate a technical session with the topic on its initiatives on virtual reality. The session is entitled “VR Direct: How NVIDIA Technology is Improving the VR Experience” to be presented by Nathan Reed, developer technology engineer at NVIDIA.

This technical session to be hosted by NVIDIA is very relevant to the current state of VR technology today. It can be noted that NVIDIA has launched its VR initiative as the VR Direct Technology, a virtual reality technology platform supported by some of the company’s high-end graphics hardware such as the Maxwell-powered GTX 970 and GTX 980.

The session will be emphasizing on the VR Direct Technology efforts such as delivering software and hardware technologies to significantly reduce latency in graphics processing and improve rendering performance among its graphics cards. Demos will be shown to demonstrate the improvements that NVIDIA graphics processing units and its VR Direct Technology can impart to the Oculus Rift as well as to other VR headsets.

NVIDIA has been active in research and development efforts in the VR industry. The company started with their attempt on virtual reality and 3D with the NVIDIA 3D Vision technology. And for the recent years, they have been notable for their virtual reality initiative, the VR Direct Technology. With their latest high-end graphics processors running on the Maxwell technology, NVIDIA integrated some of its core technologies in the development of virtual reality such as SLI, Dynamic Super Resolution, and the baseline latency that helps aid in motion sickness associated with VR headsets.

The GDC 2015 will host the session on March 4, at 2-3pm PST. The GDC is an annual gaming conference attented by developers and game enthusiasts from around the world. Some notable launches and demos include the latest Oculus Rift prototypes and the Samsung Gear VR. Sony Computer Entertainment will also make a presence in the conference with its updates on the development of its own VR initiative, the Project Morpheus that is intended to be a companion head-mounted device to the PlayStation 4.
