Back-To-Dinosaur-Island-Oculus-Rift-Demo-1024x477
Visual experiences optimized for virtual reality are constantly being refined for upcoming VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift. VR is poised to become the norm for mainstream content consumption by taking the conventional experience from a computer into VR headsets that pack a big punch in immersiveness and realism. Many tech conferences were held during the first half of 2015 to give way for developers to showcase their VR craft. One promising game demo happened during the recently held E3 2015.

Game developer company Crytek sought the hardware capabilities of the Oculus Rift to showcase their latest creation that will take VR content experiences notches higher than the rest. It’s the Back To Dinosaur Island 2, a one-of-a-kind VR experience that is set on a prehistoric jungle full of dinosaurs doing their thing – it’s basically putting yourself in a Jurassic Park-like environment.

The graphics-intensive demo of the Back To Dinosaur Island 2 was powered by the latest graphics processors from AMD, the AMD Fury X. In line with Oculus VR’s graphics rendering requirements, the AMD Fury X is able to consistently deliver 90 FPS frame rates. Combined with the low-persistence display of the Oculus Rift prototype and built-in positional tracking, motion sickness is virtually absent all throughout the demo.

Within the environment is a mountainous terrain full of flora and fauna – most especially dinosaurs of different kinds. Roaming around the terrain reveals interesting formations as well as a panoramic viewing point which gives a pleasant overview of the jungle. The demo highlights the presence of dinosaurs, including the notorious T-rex which could scare off anyone who tries the demo.

Set in the Cretaceous Period, a time where dinosaurs thought to have lived on Earth, the demo is a beautifully realistic piece of virtual reality content showcasing human’s interaction with dinosaurs.

Crytek’s demo was highly successful thanks to the powerful and fully-featured hardware on the Oculus Rift. Immersion is truly the highlight of Back To Dinosaur Island 2. Powered by Crytek’s CRYENGINE game engine, Back To Dinosaur Island 2 shows VR fans of what to expect for the upcoming game title Robinson: The Journey. Content developers such as Crytek are constantly refining these VR experiences just in time for the highly-anticipated launch of the consumer version Oculus Rift VR headset earlier next year.
