YouTube VR is meant to be a Co-watching Group Experience

Instead of having a comments section like the web-based YouTube site, the Virtual Reality version will feature a group co-watching experience that allows limited groups to watch videos together. Also, people will appear in shared rooms with customizable avatars and they will be able to voice chat in real time.

This will definitely make YouTube more communal than before because it will provide the opportunity for co-watching parties to directly interact with video creators. Being in the middle of a 360-degree video is much more immersive with people around than just starting at a screen and reading comments.

People will also be able to mock, critique or discuss videos with their friends or family live in real time thanks to the voice-chatting and co-watching features. It’s like blending Hangouts with Virtual Reality and a live chat. Google promises it will be easy to search and discover interesting videos that your friends or other people are watching.

Google says that YouTube VR and the main YouTube channel will receive updates later this year. We are certain that with the big numbers behind YouTube and Google itself, this feature will be an easy success.
