HTC has lowered the price of its B2B flagship Virtual Reality headset Vive Pro Eye and is offering two new Vive Pro Eye packages with a new warranty as well as a support program for companies.

The $999 HTC Vive Pro Eye virtual reality headset has been aimed at the enterprise market ever since it was launched last year. The headset augment HTC’s old Vive Pro enterprise model which had integrated Tobii eye tracking for a premium. Following on the heels of the January price cut for the Vive Pro headset, HTC has now reduced the MSRP price for its Vive Pro Eye to $799. Buyers can now acquire this deluxe model for the price of the older model.

The price cut has come at a key point in time when the Vive family of headsets is in flux. The company released the Vive Cosmos VR headset late last year. Last month, Vive released a new Cosmos lineup consisting of four headsets with the cheapest going for $699. This new lineup has the feature-specific modular faceplates. The prices for HTC’s standard Vive Pro also dropped to $599, a price point that has enabled the headset to virtually sell out on the company’s website. Following the price-drop and the subsequent sell-out, customers who wanted to purchase the Vive Pro were forced to upgrade to the Vive Pro Eye which costs $999, a price increase of $400. The price drop back to $799 could somehow be justifiable to customers who are forced to upgrade or who are simply shopping for the Vive Pro Eye option.

With the price-drop, the price difference between the Vive Pro and the Vive Pro Eye will be a mere $200. Customers might be more willing to spend the extra $200 to lay their hands on an HTC headset with eye tracking. The Vive Pro Eye will also attract more enterprise customers.

New Packages

Additionally, HTC is also providing the full kit for $1,399. For the price, buyers get the headset with the controllers and base stations. There is also a $1,599 “Office” bundle that features a $200 business service agreement. There is also a new $2,350 “Office Arena” bundle that includes two extra SteamVR 2.0 base stations as well as a 20-meter fiber headset cable that allows users to enjoy a cabled room-scale usage of the headset. HTC will also be selling a 60Ghz adapter separately.

Both the Vive Pro Eye headset and the full kit bundle are already available. The Office and the Office Arena bundles will arrive in the second quarter of 2020. During the same quarter, HTC is expecting to announce more details on its low-end Cosmos virtual reality headset as well as on its more deluxe Cosmos XR model. The prices for these two headsets haven’t been revealed yet.

With its expanded lineup of VR headset, it will be interesting to watch how HTC hardware will perform this year. In terms of the diversity of its hardware, HTC has now literally surpassed Facebook’s Oculus with its constellation of VR headsets. There is also a likelihood of HTC adding one or two AR glasses for PCs and smartphones in the not-so-distant future.
