PSVR-exclusive Paper Beast is coming to PC VR next week.

Paper Beast has provided a very unique VR gameplay experience for PlayStation VR owners this year and last month, the developer Pixel Reef confirmed that a PSVR version would be coming soon. The studio has today confirmed that the Steam version will be arriving next week.

The PC version of Paper Beast will not be a direct port of the original as the team has taken time to add further enhancements to the experience. PC players will have a continuous locomotion in addition to teleportation along with upgraded visuals to offer players more precise textures and shadows and better water and sand rendering.

Paper Beast’s creative sandbox mode will also get extra tweaks like a bigger sandbox area, a new minimal species, an expanded ecosystem that has evolved vegetation as well as the ability to add extra creatures in the area.

The PC version will offer users a more polished version of Paper Beast in practically all aspects. Pixel Reel also stated that the PC port will also provide continuous move support which developers had been able to handle “without compromise”. Pixel Reef founder Eric Chahi stated that his team took special care in the rendering of water and sand and players will be able to see the turmoil on the water surface as well as a delicate sand flow. Players will even be able to dive deep into the fantastic Paper Beast world.

Paper Beast has a created a colorful world that has been crafted from decades of lost code and algorithms within a vast memory of data server. It creates a digital ecosystem of creatures and vegetation. The gameplay is based on solving environmental puzzles but it does not include any verbal or text hints that can help.

It is not a VR ‘game’ in the traditional sense but an interactive and immersive story that is relayed through a physics-based environment. It features surreal origami-folded creatures lumbering around and getting about their origami lives. The player sees this world unfolding before them and it is presented in a story mode as well as in a sandbox mode giving endless opportunities for exploration.

Paper Beast will support various PC VR headsets including HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality headsets and Valve Index. It launches on Steam on July 24th, 2020 and will retail for $19.99. To sample the videogame before it launches, you can download a free demo from the store.

A Paper Beast page is already live on Steam so it is already possible for players to wishlist the game.
