One of the biggest surprises during Sony’s State of Play game show was that the third and final part of the World of Assassination would be coming with a VR mode and that it will be playable from a first-person perspective from start to finish.

Sony also revealed that the scenes from the first and second installment of the game can also be played through entirely in VR. The third instalment, Hitman 3 VR, will provide players with more than 20 freely explorable scenarios. The Hitman VR game will offer players a new first-person perspective, no matter the setting they find themselves playing in.

Top-Notch Graphics in VR

So far, the developer IO Interactive had only revealed a few excerpts from the virtual reality version of the game but it had not disclosed any details regarding its special VR mechanics.

The studio has now leaked a teaser of the game to the Eurogamer editor and virtual reality enthusiast Ian Higton. The teaser suggests that Hitman 3 VR will support Move Controller for hand interactions.

In the teaser, Agent 47 stands in an atmospherically lighted room and touches a lantern which then gently rocks back and forth with the reflection of light. From the short excerpt, it appears the game will offer players interactive objects, dynamic lighting effects as well as a very high level of graphical detail.

Hitman 3 is scheduled for release in January 2021 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC as well as Stadia. The VR mode of the game appears to be reserved for PlayStation VR although PSVR exclusivity might not last long.

The extent to which Hitman 3 will draw on the computing power of PS5 is still unclear. So far, there haven’t been any announcements of PSVR games which are optimized for PS5.

For a long time, Sony has been playing it safe when it comes to the future of its VR strategy. So far, the only significant announcement has been that PS5 will support PlayStation VR and the associated peripherals. It is still unclear on whether and when the PSVR 2 is likely to appear. Rumors have abounded over the past year or so that something is in the works.

Could it be a Timed PSVR Exclusive?

Hitman 3 VR will be launched exclusively for PSVR although the developers haven’t ruled out later PC support. It could the route of Skyrim VR and Borderlands 2 VR where Sony secured limited time exclusivity for the two titles before they were eventually available on other platforms.
