Film Festival Features Oculus Rift Headset
Everyone wants to try the new Oculus Rift virtual reality headset but sadly, they’re still not available for commercial use. On the plus side, RIDM – The Montreal documentary film festival – is featuring the Oculus Rift headset this year.
The Montreal documentary film festival is giving viewers and fans a chance to experience the virtual reality headset at the festival later this year. The Oculus Rift headset will be available for two sessions in the film festival: one showing the documentary ‘Clouds’ and the other one showing ‘Assent’. Both are completely immersive 3D experiences and give the viewers a breathtaking chance that is not to be missed. Assent has been directed by the talented Oscar Raby and the catalogue has described the film as such: “Chile, September 1973. The army takes power in a bloody coup. To maintain a reign of terror, the Caravan of Death patrols the country, executing people in military detention. Four decades later, this dark period in the country’s history continues to reverberate throughout Chile. This immersive autobiographical documentary confronts us, powerfully, with the despair felt by the director’s father, who in 1973 was an army officer in northern Chile. The Caravan of Death had visited his regiment.”
The second film Clouds has been directed by James George and Jonathan Minard. It appears to be a cross between sci-fi and fantasy and appears to be an extremely exciting film to watch through the new Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. The first part, viewers claimed, had a hint of Star Trek in the way that the film moves into warp speed and the universe goes swiftly by with stars passing the viewers left and right. The most fascinating part is where a shape appears as on object in one second and then changes its appearance in the next. Sounds pretty strange but also very interesting! Viewers have reported that there were snow capped mountains in the film which then somehow changed into waves crashing over the majestic ocean. Voices have been added to the documentary, which talk about life, the world in general and work. Some of these talkers have been made visible, other times you just hear a disembodied voice speaking but no figure attached to it.
