A Christmas Carol

The Oculus Share portal has always been a treasure chest of virtual reality games of all possible genres. The most popular ones belong to seasonal games that are relevant to Halloween or Christmas.

A lot of games that are given the theme of Christmas are released around this team every year, ever since the Oculus Share Portal was launched. One of these games ‘A Christmas Carol’ has been launched by indie developer Grapevine Forge. The game is not (as it appears from the name) an adaptation of the famous novel by Charles Dickens; instead, it is an application designed to provide the user with tools to create a special, amazing holiday experience.

A Christmas Carol has been launched to give players that warm, cozy feeling that you get during Christmas break. It gives them a chance to bask in the incredibly atmospheric experience provided by the application. The developers have described the game a little to pique interest of fans who like the seasonal holiday themed virtual video game genres. A Christmas Carol can be heard by the players on a radio while they enjoy the Christmas themed environment around them: decorations, a Christmas tree, a blazing fire, all sights of comfort and festivity.

The developers of A Christmas Carol claim it is “a small virtual house experiment with the intent to invoke nostalgic memories of Christmas. Sit in a mid 19th century living room and listen as the fire crackles to a radio broadcast of “A Christmas Carol“, or choose to put a record on the phonograph and listen to A Christmas Carol. Watch the snow lightly falling outside of your window and gaze across the snow at your far off neighbors as they sit cozily in their warm homes”.

The basic idea behind creating A Christmas Carol was to give users a chance to experience and get used to learning the controls and basics of the Unity video game development engine. This engine can be used absolutely free of cost but needs some expertise for players to be able to maneuver it easily while playing their favorite video games. A Christmas Carol is available for download completely free on the Oculus Share Portal. It has been given support for both the first and second development kits by Oculus Rift (DK1 and DK2, respectively). Virtual Reality Times will keep following the progress on A Christmas Carol and report back with any further details.
