Wild Within VR Experience

Fans and technology buffs both love virtual reality for one reason above all: the immense diversity in this field.

Virtual reality gives everyone a chance to experience worlds they could never have dreamed of normally. Clearly, virtual reality is not only something gamers can experience. In keeping with this tradition, travel agencies have been utilizing virtual reality for their own purposes. Many travel agencies and private tourism companies have purchased the latest prototype of Oculus Rift. Using the virtual reality headset designed by Oculus Rift, agents can show travelers a virtual tour of the places they are interested in visiting.

One of the pioneering travel companies that are using this feature and have put it on offer for clients is the Destination British Columbia. The company has invested an amount of $500,000 to produce a virtual reality video called “The Wild Within VR Experience”. This virtual reality video will give viewers a chance to experience what it feels like visiting a rainforest and going on a coastal adventure.

The area shot in the VR video is of British Columbia, Canada. The entire production – as narrated by testers – is an absolutely breathtaking 360 degrees experience that offers a beautifully constructed sensory experience. Viewers are given a few choices of where they can direct their boats to take them, and then enjoy the richly detailed, amazing view. Oculus Rift headsets handed out to the virtual travelers have added a whole new dimension to traveling itself. The viewers can fully experience the gorgeous place shown in the virtual reality video in a completely unique and interactive way.

The users are handed an Oculus Rift headset along with headphones which they are asked to put on, after which they see a screen. Suddenly, the user is sitting on a boat rocking in the water, surrounding by stunning foliage all around and sea lions frolicking in the water beneath. A 360 degree panoramic view is provided to the user, where he or she can explore the entire area by just moving their head. The camera has two points of angle or perspective – both first and third person view. The video was recorded with HD Go-Pro cameras attached to a 3D printed spherical rig. A ‘hexa-copter’ drone was also used to take aerial shots from above.

According to Destination BC, this is only the first of many more videos to come in virtual reality traveling. They claim to cover a lot of other special places that host interesting activities. Virtual Reality Times will keep following the progress on “The Wild Within VR Experience” and report back with any further details.
